XPENG X9 sliding door opens only partway: check charging port flap and window

Scope: applies only to the X9 English right-hand-drive file labelled 2024 in XPENG's official Global manual list (XPENG_X9_2024_EN_RHD_User_Manual; the PDF foreword corresponds to IVI V5.4 and gives no exact publication date). The Global label does not prove each car's China-mainland or other-market configuration; asterisked items, configuration and OTA changes must be checked against the actual car, current software and the vehicle's own manual. This article only explains normal travel-limit clues for the factory power sliding doors and how to hand faults over; it gives no sliding-door track removal, emergency pull-ring, lock mechanism or initialisation work. Occupant safety and the doors' actual locked state come first.

The right sliding door and the charging port flap have a clear interlock

If the right power sliding door responds to its button but doesn't open fully, first see whether the right-hand charging port flap is open, and whether the message appeared before opening or while sliding. This 2024 English RHD X9 manual says clearly: when the charging port flap is open, the right sliding door can't be opened electrically; if the flap is opened while the right sliding door is opening, the door slides to a restricted position and stops. This is a conditional protection logic; it doesn't show the motor, track or latch is damaged, and it can't explain the left sliding door or persistent faults unrelated to the flap. Recording which door, the flap state and where it stopped is more useful to a service centre than pressing the open button again and again. [1]

Window opening, child lock and anti-pinch each do different things

The same chapter says that when the corresponding window is open 20% or more, the sliding door stops at a restricted position; the manual gives instructions for using the switch again to continue opening. With the electronic child lock on, the manual also lists opening restrictions for the corresponding sliding door. So "opens only partway", "won't open from a certain place" and "reverses when closing" can't all be treated as the same sensor fault. A sliding door that meets an obstacle when closing reverses a certain distance, but anti-pinch is no guarantee that hands, heads, clothing or luggage can be left in its path. Owners can note the window opening, child lock status, where it was operated from and whether an obstacle message appeared; if it repeatedly sticks, strikes something abnormally or occupants could be trapped, stop trying and have a professional check it; don't push or pull the door panel by hand to test its force. [1]

Conditions for stopping should be stricter than "it closes"

The manual requires confirming the sliding doors are fully closed before driving, and operating them only when the car is stationary; it also warns against opening or closing them on a slope, and against putting heads or hands out of the corresponding window when it is lowered. If the fault happens on a slope, the door doesn't close properly, or children and luggage are nearby, first make sure people are safe and stop operating it; don't judge lock reliability with a short test drive. When handing over to the service team, include the model year, RHD version, infotainment version, door side, charging port flap and window states, any obstacles and cluster messages. Although the manual has separate passages on sliding-door initialisation and emergency handling, this article doesn't turn them into owner troubleshooting steps; for persistent problems or if locking can't be confirmed, go to an XPENG service centre.
