XPENG G6 Screen Cleaning Mode: Not a Cleaner Approval
XPENG G6 UK owner's manual: the CID screen cleaning mode stops accidental touches, but doesn't approve any cleaner. Cloths, banned liquids and limits.
XPENG G6 screen cleaning mode: blocking touches isn't a cleaner approval
Scope: applies only to the G6 English owner's manual provided on the XPENG UK owners page (PDF foreword states publication in July 2024), subject to the relevant configuration and current infotainment interface. The manual notes that asterisked equipment, OTA updates and software features may change; the UK page material is not extended to the China version, other model years or aftermarket screens. This article covers only owner cleaning choices for the factory central display (CID) and instrument cluster surfaces; it gives no screen removal, power isolation or screen-failure diagnostic steps.
Cleaning mode prevents accidental touches; it doesn't replace checking materials
The UK XPENG G6 manual lists "Screen Cleaning" in the cleaning instructions for the central display (CID): once entered from the display settings or shortcut menu, wiping the CID will not trigger buttons or change settings. It solves accidental touches while wiping the screen; it does not approve any cleaning liquid, and it does not prove the infotainment system is powered off. Before cleaning, park the car safely and check on the actual vehicle's current interface whether the mode is available; menus may change after OTA updates, so do not keep tapping the screen while driving to find it. If the screen was already jumping, unresponsive or showing warnings before cleaning, keep the original symptoms and contact a service centre; switching cleaning mode on and off does not prove the fault has gone. Cleaning mode is for the CID; this article does not infer that the instrument cluster or other physical buttons have the same anti-touch state. [1]
The cloth matters too: soft and lint-free doesn't mean freshly washed is fine
The same manual requires a dedicated soft, lint-free cloth for the CID and instrument cluster, and prohibits glass cleaner, wet wipes and cloths carrying dry static; it specifically gives a freshly washed microfibre cloth as an example of the latter. When buying a screen-care kit, do not assume it meets this version of the manual just because the label says "microfibre" or "for large screens". Owners can check that the cloth is clean, soft and free of static, and keep screen sprays of unknown composition out of the car; do not carry cleaners used on other brands or other interior surfaces over to the G6's CID and instrument cluster. If wiping has already left haze, scratches or coating problems, do not add stronger chemicals or rub harder; record the products used and what changed, and have the service provider assess it. [1]
Corrosive liquids are banned; door panels and screens are different surfaces
The manual lists separate prohibitions for the CID: corrosive liquids such as acids, alkalis, deoxidising detergents and sodium hypochlorite (84 disinfectant) must not be used on the screen. The door trim warning in the same chapter covers wet wipes, damp cloths and detergents causing internal electrical faults; that and the soft-cloth requirement for the CID and cluster concern different surfaces and should not be merged into one all-purpose wiping method. When booking interior cleaning, you can mark the CID, instrument cluster and door trims separately and ask the provider to explain the materials and how liquid will be kept out for each. If liquid gets into gaps, touch response becomes abnormal or the cluster display misbehaves, stop cleaning, keep the product name and time, and have an XPENG service centre inspect it. A screen that still displays an image before and after cleaning does not prove the internal electrics are safe; this article gives no guidance on opening covers, drying out or electrical repair. [1]
