XPENG X9 cool and warm box: set temperature, lid alerts and second-row seats

Scope: applies only to the X9 English right-hand-drive file labelled 2024 in XPENG's official Global manual list (XPENG_X9_2024_EN_RHD_User_Manual; the PDF foreword corresponds to IVI V5.4 and gives no exact publication date). The Global label does not prove each car's China-mainland or other-market configuration; asterisked items, configuration and OTA changes must be checked against the actual car, current software and the vehicle's own manual. Applies only where the car has the powered cool and warm box described in the manual; covers owner checks and service records, does not guarantee storage temperatures for food or medicine, and gives no box, powered lid or seat mechanism repair steps.

First separate cooling settings, heating settings and where they're controlled

If the X9's cool and warm box seems "not cold enough", first record on the car whether it is cooling, heating or off, and the set value shown on the panel or infotainment. The manual lists a cooling range of 0–20°C and a heating range of 30–50°C, and says that when switched back on it keeps the setting from before it was last turned off. Phone Bluetooth key control covers only switching cooling or heating on and off and timing, so not seeing temperature adjustment in the phone doesn't mean the box has failed; the infotainment settings screen lists controls for mode, temperature and lid. The set range is no guarantee of the actual temperature of every item in the box. If strict cold-chain or medicine temperature control is needed, don't rely on the infotainment setting alone; verify separately according to the item's storage requirements. [1]

If the lid misbehaves, don't use force or move the second-row seats to test it

The manual warns that if the box lid is left not properly closed for a long time, the infotainment and voice will alert you; the lid is powered, and forcing it open or closed by hand will damage the mechanism. Another warning on the same page says not to adjust the second-row seats while the lid is open, to avoid the seat striking the box and damaging hardware. If the closing alert persists, the lid moves abnormally or the clearance between seat and lid is unclear, owners can keep passengers away from the moving area, record the exact alert, the lid position and the second-row seat position, stop operating it and take it to an XPENG service centre. Don't treat the lid just about closing as proof the structure is back to normal, and don't prise the lid, adjust hinges or remove seats yourself to find the snag. [1]

Child protection mode only locks the settings; it doesn't lock the lid

The infotainment settings can also set how long the box keeps temperature after the car is locked, and offer a "child protection lock" for the box. The manual says that with this mode on, rear passengers can still open and close the lid; they just can't change the box settings. The manufacturer recommends turning it on when children are in the car, to avoid accidental temperature changes. It is not a physical lock that keeps children away from the lid or food, nor does it prove the box will cool or heat indefinitely after locking. At handover or when reporting a fault, record whether child protection mode is on, the post-lock duration setting, the actual on/off state and alerts; if settings and behaviour disagree over time, have a professional check it. Don't bypass child protection, rewire the power supply or let children keep testing the lid to get rid of an alert. [1]
