XPENG G6 TPMS Warning After New Tyres: Check Low Pressure
After new tyres on a 2024 LHD XPENG G6, automatic TPMS calibration doesn't mean ignoring low-pressure warnings. Read the message and record the work.
XPENG G6 TPMS warning after a tyre change: don't ignore low pressure
Scope: facts limited to the 2024 G6 English left-hand-drive file in XPENG's official global manual list (XPENG_G6_2024_EN_LHD_User_Manual; the manual states July 2024 and infotainment V5.2). The Global list does not prove each China-mainland or other-market car's configuration; asterisked and "if applicable" features depend on the specific car, and after OTA updates check the current infotainment and vehicle documentation. Covers only tyre pressure monitoring warnings after replacing or repairing tyres, tyre and wheel choice, and handover with the tyre shop; gives no steps for driving with a fault to calibrate, sensor removal, pressure settings or releasing a repair.
Read the exact on-screen message; don't merge three kinds of warning into one
If you see a tyre pressure icon after a tyre change, don't immediately assume "the sensor is still learning". The manual explains that this TPMS monitors tyre pressure and temperature while driving, and the cluster may show different messages: an ordinary low-pressure warning, a low-pressure warning asking you to inflate immediately, and a fault in the TPMS itself asking you to visit a service centre. The first two relate first to the actual tyres, the last to the monitoring system; recent tyre work doesn't explain away real low pressure or a system fault as a calibration delay. After stopping safely, record the exact message, when it appeared and which wheel is affected, and have a qualified person check the tyres and monitoring system; with obvious damage, abnormal handling or a warning requiring immediate action, don't keep driving to "wait for it to sort itself out". [1]
Automatic calibration has conditions, but it isn't an instruction to road test
The manual says the system calibrates automatically after a tyre change, and also gives instructions for calibrating after the car has been stationary for at least 17 minutes and then driven under certain speed and time conditions, avoiding reversing during that period. So "tyres fitted" doesn't equal "calibration complete"; but nor does it follow that, during a warning, owners should drive with unknown tyre pressures to meet the speed conditions. Ask the shop that did the tyre work to check pressures, sensor status and the car's manual first, then have a professional arrange confirmation under suitable site and road conditions. If the warning persists, keeps returning or shows a TPMS fault, go to an XPENG service centre for diagnosis; don't use code clearing, power disconnection or changes to the sensors in place of investigation. [1]
Keep tyre and wheel specifications and balancing on the job record
The XPENG manual requires tyres and wheels of the same specification as the originals, and points out that different specifications may affect XPILOT functions and the TPMS; it also requires wheel balancing after tyres are replaced or repaired. Even when buying the same size, check the full tyre and wheel specifications for the actual car and the supplier's fitment basis; don't go by tread pattern or brand claims alone. At handover, ask the shop to record each wheel's specification, the actual pressure check result, whether balancing was done and how the cluster warnings changed. If you see uneven tread wear or damage such as cuts or bulges, have a service centre inspect it as the manual says; a cluster icon going out for now can't replace checking the tyre structure and the quality of the work.
