XPENG G6 Rear Carrier: 75 kg Ball Load Isn't the Rack Limit

The 2024 LHD XPENG G6 manual lists the 75 kg tow-ball vertical load separately from rear carrier limits, which fall as the centre of gravity moves out.

XPENG G6 rear carrier: the 75 kg tow-ball load isn't the rack allowance

Scope: applies only to the 2024 G6 English left-hand-drive manual in XPENG's official global user-manual list (XPENG_G6_2024_EN_LHD_User_Manual; the manual states publication in July 2024 and infotainment V5.2). "Global" in the list does not prove that the China-mainland version or any export-market car has exactly the same configuration; asterisked or "if applicable" items apply only where fitted, and features may change after OTA updates, so check the vehicle, software version and local rules. Rear carriers are covered only where the car has the matching factory tow ball and local law allows it; the manual marks "trailer mode" as if applicable. Unverified aftermarket tow balls, brackets or accessories are never treated as fitting. This article gives no tow-bar installation, wiring, tightening torques or load-test steps.

First separate trailer mass, tow-ball vertical load and rear carriers

When choosing a rear-mounted bike rack, a product page saying "tow hook 75 kg" is not enough to go ahead. This G6 manual's technical data lists towing mass for braked and unbraked trailers separately from the maximum vertical load at the tow-ball connection; 75 kg is the tow ball's maximum vertical load, while trailer mass is a different limit covering the trailer and its cargo together. The manual also sets out separate load rules for rear-mounted carriers, stating that the total weight includes the carrier itself and the luggage. So neither the towable trailer mass nor the 75 kg tow-ball figure answers how many bikes a long-arm bike rack can carry. Check the car's actual towing configuration, permitted local use and the carrier's documentation before talking about load. [1]

The further out the centre of gravity, the lower the manual's rear-carrier limit

The manual lists different allowances by the distance from the load system's centre of gravity to the centre of the tow ball: under 30 cm, carrier plus load no more than 75 kg; under 60 cm, no more than 35 kg; 60–70 cm, no more than 10 kg; over 70 cm, the tow ball must not carry such luggage or carriers. The original wording "under 30" and "under 60" overlaps literally, and this article doesn't define the boundary bands for the manufacturer or pick the larger number. If the carrier's instructions don't give the centre-of-gravity position, measuring reference or its own weight, the quote lacks key conditions; have the service provider check against the actual car and the product documents, rather than printing 75 kg on a shopping list as a universal allowance. [1]

If the configuration or local permission is unclear, pause the fitting plan

This manual marks trailer mode and towing equipment as configuration-dependent, and reminds owners to check local regulations, driving entitlement and applicable dimensions first; having the device doesn't mean a rear-carrier product is approved. Before buying, you can give the VIN, tow-ball configuration, carrier model, its weight, the intended load and the centre-of-gravity distance to an XPENG service centre and the parts supplier to confirm item by item; if they can't agree on a range, don't decide by test-fitting or a short test drive. The manual has separate requirements for lights, connection and load when towing, and this article doesn't turn them into a tutorial on aftermarket wiring or trailer mode. If the carrier works loose or affects handling while driving, stop safely and have a professional check it. [1]
