XPENG G6 Emergency Door Release: Button, Key and Handle
On the 2024 LHD XPENG G6, the door button, separate mechanical key and emergency handles do different jobs. Where they are and when not to use them.
XPENG G6 emergency door opening: button, mechanical key and emergency handle
Scope: facts limited to the 2024 G6 English left-hand-drive file in XPENG's official global manual list (XPENG_G6_2024_EN_LHD_User_Manual; the manual states July 2024 and infotainment V5.2). The Global list does not prove each China-mainland or other-market car's configuration; asterisked and "if applicable" features depend on the specific car, and after OTA updates check the current infotainment and vehicle documentation. Only helps owners identify the front and rear door emergency access points and separate mechanical key described in the manual; check actual locations on the car and in its manual. Use emergency handles only in a genuine emergency; no lock removal, rewiring or post-collision rescue procedures are given.
Normal electronic opening and the emergency handle do different jobs
This manual treats the electronic door release button and emergency opening as separate items: when the car is stationary, the electronic release button on the door armrest side opens that door; there are also other ways to unlock, such as the key, phone Bluetooth key, keyless entry and the door lock button. The emergency handle is in the "Emergency rescue" chapter, and the manual specifically warns that pulling it can open the door even while driving, so don't pull it unless it's an emergency. When showing family members the doors, first distinguish the everyday button, the exterior handle and the emergency handle; the emergency handle isn't an everyday substitute when the electronic button fails, and must never be tested while moving. [1]
The front exterior door uses a separate mechanical key, and inside positions differ front and rear
The manual's front-door emergency opening passage links the driver's-side exterior handle to the mechanical key; it also makes clear that the mechanical key is not built into the smart key (I-key) and should be kept separately somewhere safe where you can reach it when needed. Inside, the front-door emergency handle is beside the front door storage box, while the rear-door emergency handle is behind an access cover under the rear door armrest. These positions apply only to the configuration described in this 2024 English LHD manual; they can't be assumed for every market, model year or aftermarket door panel. Checking in advance whether the car has these parts is more useful than guessing their location in an emergency; don't pull them to "test" them while people are inside or the car is moving. [1]
Record failures clearly and leave repairs to professionals
If the electronic button doesn't respond, first establish whether the door was locked, whether the car was stationary, whether the key and phone unlocking showed any message, and which door is affected. The manual explains that emergency mechanical opening may trigger the alarm, and that a rear door will lock when closed again after emergency opening; you can tell the service team about these, with photos or video, but they don't let owners decide whether the lock, power supply or control unit is at fault. If someone is trapped or there is an emergency such as a collision, put personal safety first and contact local emergency services; in normal use, if the electronic release, lock or emergency device misbehaves, don't remove door panels, adjust strikers or rewire anything yourself; have an XPENG service centre check the car.
