XPENG G6 AGS warning after washing: when it may be ice, when to get service

Scope: facts limited to the 2024 G6 English left-hand-drive file in XPENG's official global manual list (XPENG_G6_2024_EN_LHD_User_Manual; the manual states July 2024 and infotainment V5.2). "Global" in the list does not confirm each China-mainland or other-market configuration; asterisked or "if applicable" features depend on the actual car, and after OTA updates check the current infotainment and the vehicle documentation. Covers only AGS warnings after a low-temperature wash or parking outdoors in snow, and owner record-keeping; other warning lights are not attributed to ice, and no grille, charging port or brake component repair steps are given.

First record the conditions in which the warning appeared

If the instrument cluster shows an AGS warning after a car wash in low temperatures, or after parking outdoors in snow, first note the warning text, the time, the ambient temperature and the recent washing or parking history. The external cleaning chapter of this 2024 G6 English LHD manual says that in those situations the active grille shutter (AGS) may not work properly because of ice, and the instrument cluster control module may show an AGS fault. It explains only one situation with clear weather and icing clues; it does not say an AGS fault in any season or form can be ignored. If other warnings, abnormal driving behaviour or safety concerns appear at the same time, stop safely according to those warnings and contact the service team; don't apply this article's ice explanation. [1]

Cleaning limits matter more than clearing the code yourself

The same manual requires drying the water in the recesses around the door handles after a winter wash so it doesn't freeze; when pressure washing, keep the nozzle moving and at least 30 cm from the body, don't spray one spot continuously, and don't spray at the charging port. It also warns against pointing a hose straight at windows or door seals, or through wheel openings at brake components. What owners can do is follow these visible limits next time they wash the car and record the warning and conditions; don't prise the grille to test whether the AGS opens and closes, reach into the mechanism, remove trim, spray the brakes or try to clear the fault record. Whether the washing method caused the warning still needs the service team to check the actual car. [1]

A persistent warning should be treated as a real fault

The manual describes the specific low-temperature icing case as one that can clear once things thaw, and says that if it doesn't clear, you should contact an XPENG service centre for repair. This is not a tutorial for using a heat gun yourself, and it doesn't promise that waiting a set time will make it safe or bring it back. At handover, you can provide the model year, infotainment version, photos of the warning, weather, washing method, when it appeared and how long it lasted, and whether there were other warnings. If the warning persists or keeps returning after the weather warms up, or the car has other problems when it appears, stop troubleshooting yourself and have a professional assess it; "common in winter" alone can't rule out a real mechanism or sensor fault.
