Tesla Model 3 thermal management may run while parked: don't reach in

Scope: Model 3 2024+, North America, software 2026.32; thermal management safety limits, not noise diagnosis

Why systems can run when the car is parked

The official maintenance page explains that when the car isn't in use, internal systems may still work on functions such as battery temperature management, and the air-con compressor may also run to cool the battery. Switching off the air-con inside or parking the car doesn't mean every cooling component has stopped. This fact is for recognising contact risks; it can't be used to prove any noise is normal. [1]

In front of a fan is not a place to inspect

The manual clearly warns that some fans may operate even when the car is off. Owners shouldn't put hands, clothing or tools near them, and shouldn't hold fans still, block air intakes or unplug connectors to find the source of a noise. If cleaning or repair is needed, a professional sets up safe working conditions under the vehicle's service procedure; this article gives no power-down or waiting times. [1]

When to step away from the car first

If there's smoke, an unusual smell, obvious heat or a safety message, stop close observation and contact the appropriate emergency and service organisations. A running noise alone can be passed to the service provider to check, but the manual's mention of thermal management is no reason to ignore new problems. The service record should state what was actually found; switching the car off is not, in itself, a safety basis for owners to reach into component areas. [1]
