Fluid under a Tesla Model 3: how to leave useful clues

Scope: Model 3 2024+, North America, software 2026.32; external observation only, without touching the fluid or going under the car

Don't judge from one photo of a wet patch

The manual mentions that air-conditioning dehumidification may leave a small amount of water under the car, and also asks owners to watch for unusual fluid traces. Colour, position or a photo alone can't confirm what the fluid is. Owners should first note any vehicle warnings or braking or handling problems; don't explain every fluid as air-con water, and don't top up fluids yourself after comparing pictures online. [1]

What to record safely

This article suggests recording, from a safe position, how long the car was parked, the weather, whether the air-con had been used, roughly where the fluid is and how the area changes, without touching, smelling or tasting it. Include a fixed reference in photos so differing zoom doesn't mislead. Never go under a car without professional support, don't open covers to look for fluid levels and don't use household cleaners on unknown marks. [1]

Hand the uncertainty to the workshop

If fluid keeps appearing, comes with a warning or vehicle functions are affected, stop using the car and contact the service provider; in serious cases, have it transported. After handing over your external records, let the technician confirm the source and whether the car is safe to use. The job should be closed with the system found, the repair done and whether anything still needs watching, not just "nothing wrong". This article contains no steps for checking brake fluid or coolant. [1]
