Severe conditions don't just mean off-road

The manual takes repeated short journeys in low temperatures, long periods of slow running and similar use into account for maintenance. Short daily distances do not automatically mean a light load; for this car, how the engine is actually used also matters when deciding on maintenance. "I've hardly driven it" cannot replace accurate records and a check against the official conditions. ^[1]

Tell the workshop how you use the car

We suggest describing typical commuting distance, ambient temperature, congestion and how the car runs in HEV, so the workshop can confirm against the model's maintenance requirements which items need adjusting. Don't apply a threshold from another model year yourself, and don't decide from a week of weather that the whole year falls into the same category. Any shortened schedule should have an explainable basis. ^[1]

Diagnosis and maintenance are still different

Maintenance is preventive; fault messages, abnormal fluids or unstable running need diagnosis, and one oil change does not mean the cause has been found. If something is clearly wrong, stop heavy use and contact professionals, with recovery transport if necessary; this article gives no sampling, engine testing or alternative rules for extending intervals. ^[1]
