Plug-in hybrid low brake fluid warning: why topping up isn't enough

Scope: 2026 Qin L DM-i, China mainland; PDF pp. 64 and 374–375; no brake-system DIY

The warning means finding the cause

If this car shows a low brake fluid warning, the manual says to stop immediately in a safe place, not to keep driving, and to contact an authorised service centre. A low level also calls for checks for causes such as leaks or brake pad wear, so topping up until it looks normal cannot replace finding out why. Owners should not open the reservoir themselves, nor assume a fluid is suitable because an online shop lists the same grade. [1]

Keep inspection and maintenance separate

We suggest telling the workshop the exact wording of the warning, any change in brake feel and recent service work, and asking it to confirm the system's condition against the information for this model. Scheduled replacement in the maintenance table and diagnosing an abnormal level are different tasks; completing one does not close the other. Work on safety components needs a specific basis. [1]

Be clear about when to stop

As soon as a low brake fluid warning appears, stop immediately in a safe place and do not keep driving; contact an authorised service centre to arrange inspection and recovery transport. Don't treat a normal pedal feel or a warning that seems minor as a reason to carry on. The handover should record the cause, the work actually done and anything unresolved; it cannot end with the light going out. This article gives no level checks, top-up, bleeding, power-disconnection or test steps, and no figures that apply across models. [1]
