Plug-in Hybrid Air-Con Refrigerant Recovery Explained
The BYD Qin L DM-i manual says air-con servicing should use refrigerant recycling equipment. Recovery, reuse and venting explained, without DIY steps.
Refrigerant recovery in plug-in hybrid air-con repairs: recovery, reuse, venting
Scope: 2026 Qin L DM-i, China mainland; PDF p. 377, "Air-conditioning system"; no refrigerant procedures or process parameters
The official requirement is about the service process
The Qin L manual explains that the air-conditioning is a sealed system, recommends that important maintenance is done by trained staff at an authorised workshop, and says servicing should use refrigerant recycling equipment. The requirement is about how refrigerant is handled during repairs; it does not mean that weaker cooling always calls for more refrigerant. The recovery service and confirming whether a top-up is needed are two separate questions, and a quote shouldn't merge them into a single line for "regas". [1]
What recovery equipment actually does
The manual makes clear that such equipment can recover refrigerant for reuse, and that releasing refrigerant into the atmosphere pollutes the environment. So recovery before the system is opened should not be replaced by simple venting; owners can ask whether the repair includes recovery equipment and the corresponding handling. This article does not treat recovery as the same as purification to standard, nor assume that any recovered refrigerant can go back in without professional judgement. [1]
Judge the scope of the service rather than doing the work yourself
When booking, separate diagnosis, any system repairs needed and refrigerant recovery, and ask the workshop to explain the actual items and materials. The manual does not list the refrigerant type, fill quantity or equipment process on this page, and this article adds no parameters; don't use canned products to vent, extract or fill refrigerant yourself. This article only explains the environmental handling within a repair; problems with cooling airflow need a separate check. [1]
