Coastal Driving Corrosion Care: Watch for Damp Inside Too
Salt, moisture and paint damage all matter for corrosion, and the BYD Qin L DM-i manual also warns about water under the carpets. Find the source first.
Corrosion care for coastal driving: damp inside the car matters too
Scope: 2026 Qin L DM-i, China mainland; PDF pp. 361–363
Corrosion protection isn't just about the paint
The manual discusses salt, moisture and paint damage, and reminds owners to watch for water building up under the carpets. A clean body outside doesn't prove that long-term damp inside has been dealt with. If you find persistent damp marks or a smell, tell the workshop about where you use the car and any water ingress, and don't assume it's only a cleaning problem. [1]
Find the source before valeting
We suggest giving the workshop the location of the damp, the weather, and any recent car washes or items carried, and asking it to confirm the source and the affected area first. Don't accept only fragrance, drying or whole-car spray treatments before the cause is found. Water and corrosion near electrical components should be assessed by professionals; don't remove trim panels yourself to look. [1]
Keep a record of the actual work
Record what cleaning, repair and professional inspection each achieved, and keep working on it if there is still damp or a safety warning. A history of driving through water shouldn't be forgotten just because things look dry; if there is a clear electrical fault, stop using the car and get help. This article gives no underbody washing, corrosion chemical treatment or wiring repair steps, and does not promise any anti-corrosion product will work. [1]
