BYD Seagull Wireless Phone Charging Stops: What to Check
BYD Seagull wireless charging can stop due to the phone, its case, alignment, bumps or heat. What to check first, and why metal objects are a risk.
BYD Seagull wireless phone charging cuts out: check position, heat and objects
Scope: China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website file 260317; PDF pp. 303–305, "Wireless phone charging"; only for vehicles equipped with this feature
A faulty module isn't the only reason it stops
The manual explains that wireless charging works only with compatible phones, and that a thick phone case, misaligned coils, position changes from bumps and high temperatures can all affect charging. So first check the phone and the vehicle's actual features, then separate persistent failure when stationary from occasional interruptions while driving; one interruption is not a reason to order a charging module. [1]
Foreign objects are a safety issue
The manual prohibits placing coins, metal keys and similar items on the charging area, and warns against putting cards with chips between the phone and its case. If you find a metal object on the pad while charging, don't remove it with bare hands, as it may burn you. Stop using it and let the device cool down, contacting a workshop if necessary; don't keep switching it on to test the foreign-object detection. [1]
Repair limits and driving attention
Do cleaning, positioning and phone compatibility checks after parking, and don't keep looking down at the charging status while driving. If it still doesn't work after ruling out the basics, have a workshop check it; don't open up or modify the charger, and don't pour water into gaps in the pad. This article gives no methods for modifying the coil or increasing output power. [1]
