The BYD Seagull manual says stone chips need prompt care and many or large ones mean replacing the glass. Why replacement on cars with sensors goes to BYD.

BYD Seagull windscreen stone chips: read the whole repair-or-replace advice

Scope: BYD China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website owner's manual file 260317; physical PDF p. 327 glass damage care and p. 134 driver assistance sensor warnings; covers only professional assessment after stone damage; sensor requirements apply only to vehicles so equipped; not for DIY resin filling, crack-size judgements or glass removal; not extended to other model years, markets or glass specifications

Read the whole repair advice first

The manual says a windscreen chipped by stones should be dealt with promptly and mentions glass repair resin products; the same sentence also recommends replacing the glass if there is a lot of damage or it is too large. Buying tools on the strength of the words "resin products" alone misses the replacement limit in the second half. This part of the manual gives owners no number, diameter or depth thresholds to apply, and this article adds no general figures, still less a promise from one photo that damage can be repaired. [1]

Give professionals enough first-hand information

We suggest that once safely stopped you record where the damage is, when you found it and whether it affects your view, and tell the service provider about recent impacts, earlier repairs and changes. Having professionals confirm the actual damage and suitable treatment is more reliable than choosing repair or replacement by material price; these records are editorial suggestions, not a standard for owners to complete a diagnosis. Don't enlarge the damage, inject resin or polish the glass yourself; if your view is affected, stop driving and get help rather than waiting for an online kit to arrive before dealing with a safety problem. [1]

Check the vehicle's equipment when replacing glass

For vehicles fitted with the relevant sensors, the driver assistance chapter requires contacting a BYD authorised centre when the windscreen needs replacing, so that the radar and camera are handled properly. Decisions on repair or replacement therefore can't just be about whether glass of the same size is available. We suggest confirming on the job sheet this car's equipment, the scope of work and the related checks the service provider will take on, without assuming every version follows the same process or claiming that a glass replacement always needs a particular fixed calibration. This article gives no glass specifications, part numbers, removal, waiting times or calibration-drive steps. [1]
