BYD Seagull window lock and delay: why the rear switches stop responding

Scope: China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website owner's manual file 260317; physical PDF pp. 75–77, "Electric window switches", "Delay function" and "Window lock switch"; auto up/down and anti-pinch depend on the actual vehicle and are not assumed on every version

The lock changes who has control

The manual explains that when the red window lock indicator is lit, only the driver's switches can control all four windows and the rear switches cannot; when the indicator goes out, the rear switches work again. So if the rear buttons don't respond, first check the lock indicator and the driver's controls while safely stopped, rather than buying a rear window regulator. The lock doesn't mean the driver can't move the windows either. [1]

Look at the switch-off conditions together with the front doors

The manual first says the window controls can be used in OK mode and usually not in OFF, then explains separately that after switching off, if no front door is opened, the four window switches have a ten-minute operating delay; opening a front door during that time cancels the delay. Being able to operate them once after switching off doesn't mean the car didn't really switch off, and the buttons then stopping working is not direct evidence of a poor contact. A fault report can record the power state, whether a front door was opened and how much time had passed. [1]

Never test with your body

When closing electric windows, the manual prohibits putting hands over the top of the glass and explicitly prohibits deliberately triggering anti-pinch with any part of the body. The window lock, auto up/down and anti-pinch are different functions, and none of them should be checked by trapping a hand. If a window drops back unexpectedly, runs out of control or the controls don't behave as the manual describes, stop testing and have the workshop check it; this article gives no anti-pinch initialisation, door removal or circuit measurement steps.
