BYD Seagull Tyre Pressure Monitoring: Two Systems Explained
The BYD Seagull may have direct or indirect tyre pressure monitoring. Why to identify the system before buying sensors, and why a reset doesn't fix a leak.
BYD Seagull tyre pressure monitoring: direct and indirect systems differ
Scope: China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website file 260317; PDF pp. 266–270, "Tyre pressure monitoring"; both types carry configuration markers and must be checked on the actual vehicle
First check which type your car has
The manual describes both direct and indirect tyre pressure monitoring, each carrying a configuration marker. The direct system measures pressure, while the indirect system judges under-inflation while the car is moving. Seeing pressure figures in the manual does not mean every Seagull has the same sensors, nor is it a reason to order four sensors for a car that shows no figures. [1]
Why a warning can remain after replacement
The direct system may need professional pairing after rims are replaced or wheel positions changed; the indirect system requires a reset after confirming the tyres and pressures are normal. Purchasing or repair should first identify the system type and then decide the parts and follow-up work needed; a model name cannot prove the full configuration, and another car's learning procedure cannot be applied. [1]
A reset won't fix a leak
The manual explicitly warns that resetting without confirming the tyres and pressures are normal artificially clears the under-inflation information and affects later warnings. Owners should first stop safely, check what is wrong and have professionals deal with it; this article gives no pairing or reset button steps. If monitoring fails, the tyres must still be checked physically: no warning on the screen does not mean the pressures are correct. [1]
