BYD Seagull Third-Party Apps: Installing Isn't Compatibility
The BYD Seagull multimedia system can install external apps, but uncertified apps may not work and default apps can't be removed. Why rooting is banned.
BYD Seagull third-party apps: an install option isn't proof of compatibility
Scope: BYD China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website owner's manual file 260317; physical PDF p. 279 multimedia warnings and pp. 283–284 "External apps"; only the factory multimedia system described in the manual; check equipment, software and screens on the actual vehicle; not extended to other head units or model years
An install option isn't proof of compatibility
The manual explains that this multimedia system is based on Android and can install and use external apps; the same section warns that apps not officially certified may not work properly. A completed installation and an icon on the screen do not confirm compatibility on the manufacturer's behalf. Before adding apps, we suggest checking with official channels whether this car's system and the app are supported, giving the vehicle version and what you actually need, rather than downloading an installation package of the same name after watching a demonstration video of another car. [1]
The number of apps also affects the limits
The manual clearly warns that installing large numbers of unnecessary apps may make the system unusable. It gives no safe number, and this article will not invent a general limit. We suggest first deciding whether a function is really needed, then keeping a list of app names, sources, versions and installation times; if lag or malfunctions appear, record pre-existing problems and later ones separately. The order in which things happened is only a lead for troubleshooting, not proof that a particular app or piece of hardware is the cause; persistent problems should go to the workshop. [1]
Don't break the uninstall limits by flashing
Although the manual describes uninstalling external apps, it states that default apps supplied with the system cannot be uninstalled; another warning strictly prohibits unauthorised flashing or rooting, which may cause problems with the multimedia system or the whole vehicle. So don't follow phone tutorials for gaining system privileges just to delete a default app. We suggest gathering fault information once safely stopped, rather than installing, uninstalling or repeatedly operating things while driving; if vehicle functions go wrong, stop modifying things yourself and contact the workshop. This article gives no steps for enabling unknown sources, rooting, flashing, disconnecting power or forcing a reset, and does not promise that uninstalling a program will restore the car. [1]
