BYD Seagull Anti-Glare Mirror: A Darker Image Is Normal
The BYD Seagull's manual anti-glare mirror trades clarity for less headlight glare. Why a darker image isn't a fault, and why not to force a stuck mirror.
BYD Seagull rear-view mirror anti-glare: a darker image isn't a broken mirror
Scope: China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website manual file 260317; physical PDF pp. 72–73, "Interior rear-view mirror"; manual anti-glare configuration only, no automatic anti-glare function assumed
The two modes involve different trade-offs
The manual divides the manual interior mirror into normal and anti-glare modes: normal mode gives the clearest image, while anti-glare mode reduces dazzle from following headlights at night but may also make the rear view less clear. So a darker image after switching to anti-glare should not immediately be treated as damaged glass; nor is it a promise to remove all light from behind, and drivers should choose the mode according to the actual view. [1]
When you adjust matters more than repeated trying
The manual requires the interior mirror to be adjusted before driving, to avoid distraction from adjusting it on the move. We suggest checking, while safely stopped, whether you can see clearly behind in normal mode, then learning how this car's lever relates to the modes, rather than treating another model's auto-dimming icon as a description of this car. If the view is inadequate while driving, stop safely first rather than flicking the lever back and forth to compare while driving. [1]
Sticking and hanging objects have their own limits
If the mirror body sticks, the manual prohibits forcing it, as the mirror could come off; it also prohibits hanging heavy objects from it or shaking or pulling it hard. Reducing glare must not turn into fitting heavy hanging accessories or wrenching the mirror. Clearing obstructions and choosing a mode do not prove the mounting is sound; if it is loose or sticking, have the workshop check it. This article gives no methods for removing, gluing or tightening the mirror. [1]
