BYD Seagull Rear Screen and Mirror Heating: What It Can't Do
BYD Seagull rear screen and mirror heating clears mist, but the manual says it can't dry raindrops or melt snow. What to record before reporting a fault.
BYD Seagull rear screen and mirror heating: not for drying rain or melting snow
Scope: China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website file 260317; PDF p. 288, "Electric defrost button"
Check what this car's manual says it can do
The manual describes heated defrosting for the rear screen and exterior mirrors, and states clearly that the function cannot be used to dry raindrops or melt snow. If the button is lit but the mirror still has rain on it, that alone does not show the heating element is faulty; first work out whether you want to clear mist, raindrops or a covering of snow, to avoid an unnecessary repair request. [1]
Use and cleaning carry different risks
The heat from the mirror elements can cause burns, and the manual warns not to touch the mirror glass when the function is on. When cleaning the inside of the rear screen, the heating wires and connectors must not be scratched. So if defrosting seems weak, don't look for answers by feeling the temperature by hand, scraping with hard objects or removing trim panels; these can cause extra damage. [1]
How to make a useful fault report
Record when the function was switched on, the conditions, which areas did not improve and what the indicator showed, so the workshop can check the heating system against this car's features. This article gives no circuit measurement, heating wire repair or mirror glass removal methods. If there is a burning smell, unusual local heat or an electrical warning, stop using it and contact professionals; don't keep it switched on for long periods to test it. [1]
