BYD Seagull Monthly Lights and Horn Check
The BYD Seagull manual lists a monthly check of every exterior light and the horn. How to observe and record it safely, and why a record isn't a diagnosis.
BYD Seagull monthly lights and horn check: record each light position safely
Scope: China-mainland 2026 Seagull; PDF p. 321, "Owner maintenance checks"; the safe observation arrangement is editorial advice, not an electrical repair procedure
This car has a clear monthly checklist
The manual requires a monthly check of the headlamps, side lights, tail lights, high-level brake light, indicators, rear fog light, brake lights and number plate lights, and lists a separate horn function check. The list covers different purposes, such as lighting the road, signalling and illuminating the number plate, so working headlamps cannot stand for all the car's lights working; light position names and equipment still need checking against the actual car. [1]
How to record one check
Editorial suggestion: with the car stopped safely and reliably held so it cannot move, have an adult help observe normal operation, recording for each light position whether it lit up, whether it was intermittent and whether it was unconfirmed. Items needing operation from the driver's seat are handled by an adult, and the observer must not stand in the path of a car that could move; if conditions are unsafe or you are unfamiliar with the function, have a workshop check it instead, and never let children operate the car. [1]
Keep fault records separate from repair conclusions
A record that a light position doesn't work shows it needs checking; it does not equal a failed bulb or controller, and looking at the outside alone cannot complete beam alignment. This article gives no steps for connecting power, removing lamps, changing wattage or bypassing fuses. If lighting or signals needed for the journey don't work properly, stop the related driving, hand it to professionals and keep a note of the unresolved light positions. [1]
