BYD Seagull Master Warning Light: Not a Fault Code
On the BYD Seagull, the yellow master warning light tells you to read the message display. Why the icon alone can't identify a faulty part.
BYD Seagull master warning light: the yellow triangle is not a fault code
Scope: China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website file 260317; PDF p. 45, "Master warning indicator"; actual vehicle graphics prevail
The light and the message work together
The manual explains that when the master warning light comes on, you should look at the fault message in the information display. Its job is to prompt you to read the message, not to tell you on its own that a particular part has failed. Sending a parts supplier a single photo of the master warning icon and asking for a controller or sensor leaves out the key evidence needed to decide fitment and what repair is needed. [1]
Save the full message first
Once safely stopped, record the full text in the information display, any other indicators showing at the same time, the time it happened and how the car was being used. Giving the workshop the master warning together with the specific message avoids guessing the fault from the light's colour. A record is not a diagnosis, and a system name in the message does not mean the most expensive assembly in that system must be replaced. [1]
Act on the specific risk
If it comes with a braking, steering or battery overheating warning, follow the relevant section for this vehicle and, if necessary, stop safely and call for assistance; the colour of the master warning cannot tell you how much further you can drive. This article lists no generic fault codes and gives no code-clearing steps; repair conclusions must be based on checks of the actual vehicle and the manufacturer's procedures. [1]
