BYD Seagull Low-Voltage Battery: Not a Lead-Acid Swap
The BYD Seagull's low-voltage battery has a power manager that talks to the car. What to check before replacing it, and where DIY stops.
BYD Seagull low-voltage battery: not a direct lead-acid swap
Scope: China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website file 260317; PDF pp. 105–106, "Low-voltage battery"; does not apply to other model years
Know which battery system the car uses
When a car will not unlock, many people start by buying a battery that looks similar. But this manual states that the Seagull's low-voltage battery contains a power manager that needs to communicate with the vehicle, and that its characteristics differ from an ordinary lead-acid battery. A similar case size and voltage label do not prove that the control interface, protection strategy and vehicle matching are the same; and charge remaining in the traction battery does not mean the low-voltage system is healthy. [1]
What to check before replacing the battery
When asking for a quote, have the workshop check the low-voltage battery assembly and its applicable configuration against the vehicle identification details, rather than just sending a photo of the capacity. Confirm the original battery's markings, the connector and wiring-loom match, any manufacturer-approved alternatives, and have a professional explain the checks required after replacement. This manual is not a parts catalogue and cannot be used to produce a generic battery part number or a cross-model fitment conclusion. [1]
Safety limits: what not to do yourself
The manual prohibits dismantling or repairing the low-voltage battery yourself and requires professional charging tools; it also prohibits using this car to jump-start other vehicles. If the car has gone to sleep or the battery is flat, the owner should first contact the workshop to confirm the wake-up method for this car. This article gives no wiring, isolation or removal and refitting steps; if there is unusual heat, a strange smell or damaged wiring, stop and call for professional roadside assistance. [1]
