BYD Seagull Loose Items: Watch What Rolls Near the Pedals
The BYD Seagull manual warns that items on the floor must not roll under the seats and interfere with the pedals. Why that matters more than storage space.
BYD Seagull loose items: what rolls near the pedals matters more than space
Scope: China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website file 260317; PDF p. 111, "Carrying items in the passenger compartment"
Fitting in isn't the same as safely stowed
The manual requires items that could injure occupants in a collision to be put away or secured, and stresses that things on the floor behind the front seats must not roll under the seats, where they could interfere with the pedals and seat adjustment. Storage capacity describes convenience; it does not mean any shape of item is suitable for any spot on the floor. [1]
When tidying, think about where things can move, not just weight
Drinks bottles, small toys and tools may not be heavy, but they can slide to the driver's feet; luggage must not get in the way of the seats, occupants or space needed to operate the car. Sorting these out before you set off is safer than bending down to pick them up while driving. This article does not assume that storage boxes, hooks or seat-back pockets are load-certified cargo restraints. [1]
If something interferes, stop first
If you notice an item near the pedals while driving, keep control of the car and stop safely before dealing with it; don't look down or reach for it. If an item has caused a pedal to stick or damaged a part, have it checked professionally before using the car again. Any in-car storage accessory you buy also needs checking so that it doesn't block controls, hinder restraints or become another loose object. [1]
