BYD Seagull cluster simple mode: a menu choice and a protective display differ

Scope: China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website owner's manual file 260317; physical PDF pp. 38–39, "Instrument cluster views"; illustrations for reference only; check against the actual factory equipment and software; not extended to other models

Menu choice and protective display are separate

The manual explains that you can switch between normal and concise modes via the menu, and separately describes an automatic simplified mode when there are occasional communication delays. The names are similar, but the triggers differ: one is a view choice, the other an automatic response by the cluster system. A simpler screen alone doesn't mean you selected the wrong setting, and fewer icons are not direct evidence that a part is damaged. [1]

Automatic recovery doesn't mean everything is normal

The simplified mode described in the manual still shows driving information and exits automatically when the system is back to normal. This explains the communication situation described; it is not clearance for any black screen, missing information or persistent warning. If key information such as actual speed or gear can't be read, we suggest stopping safely and contacting the workshop, rather than using the "protective mode" explanation to keep testing the car. [1]

How to hand over if it doesn't recover

The manual lists recovery suggestions such as restarting the multimedia system and, once the vehicle is confirmed safe, restarting the car; if simplified mode is still shown, contact the workshop promptly. This article gives no button combinations or methods for restarting while driving; once safely stopped, you can record the screen, when it happened, whether it recovered by itself and any text messages, and pass them to the workshop. The cluster images in the manual are for reference only, and a manual screenshot cannot replace checking this car's equipment. [1]
