BYD Seagull Dashboard and Switch Cleaning: No Alcohol
The BYD Seagull manual says to clean panels, displays and switches with a damp soft cloth and prohibits solvents such as alcohol. How to choose a cleaner.
BYD Seagull dashboard and switch cleaning: alcohol isn't right for every surface
Scope: China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website file 260317; PDF p. 318, "Control panel and switches"
Material compatibility comes before cleaning power
The manual requires the control panel, audio unit, instruments and switches to be cleaned with a damp soft cloth, and prohibits organic solvents and acid or alkaline solutions, listing alcohol among the substances that may cause discolouration, staining or peeling. A cleaner that removes grease quickly is not necessarily suitable for this car's surface materials, and disinfection claims cannot override the manufacturer's material limits. [1]
Look at the ingredients, not the product nickname
When buying cleaning products, check the ingredients against this car's manual rather than relying on product titles such as "all-purpose interior cleaner" or "for large screens". For products with unclear ingredients, check with the supplier or the workshop first. A test wipe somewhere hidden is no justification for using something the manufacturer prohibits, and no mark for now does not mean no long-term effect. [1]
Surface care isn't dismantling and repair
If the coating has already peeled, a switch is misbehaving or liquid has got into equipment, stop adding cleaner and have the workshop check it. This article does not describe screen removal, flushing switches or abrasive repairs. Cleaning liquid should not be sprayed in quantity directly into gaps around electrical parts, and cosmetic damage and internal functional damage should be assessed separately. [1]
