BYD Seagull Charging Port Lock: Anti-Theft Off Isn't Unlock
BYD Seagull charging port lock: anti-theft mode, locking during charging and the unlock window. When to stop trying and hand over to professionals.
BYD Seagull charging port lock: anti-theft off doesn't mean unlocked
Scope: BYD China-mainland 2026 Seagull, based on the charging safety, electronic lock anti-theft and emergency release sections of official owner's manual file 260317; actual configuration, charging equipment and software status must be checked separately against the relevant official documents. This article is for identifying states and handing over to professionals; it does not apply to other markets, model years or models, and gives no instructions for unplugging under load, using the emergency release cable or a generic unlocking tutorial for AC and DC equipment.
Tell the anti-theft setting apart from the actual lock state
When the charging lock anti-theft setting shows as disabled, it is easy to assume the charging gun is never locked. This version of the manual records that the anti-theft function is disabled by default, but the same chapter notes that during charging the charging gun is locked whether the mode is enabled or disabled. So the mode name in the menu cannot on its own tell you whether you can unplug right now, nor is it evidence that the locking part has failed. The default only describes the setting covered by this manual; the current state of the actual vehicle still needs checking. To help when talking to the workshop, you can record the mode at the time, whether charging was still in progress and what the vehicle displayed; these records do not replace an equipment check or fault diagnosis. [1]
The unlock window doesn't prove charging has ended
The manual says the gun can be unplugged within 30 seconds of unlocking, and that after more than 30 seconds the lock closes again and must be unlocked again. This time describes the unlock window; it cannot be used to infer that charging has stopped, and it is not a reason to keep pulling when you meet resistance. The charging safety section also requires you to stop charging and confirm the port is unlocked before unplugging, and prohibits forcing the gun out while it is locked. When reading the state table in the lock chapter, check it together with these safety conditions and the locking note that follows; do not take the word "can" from the table as permission to act. This article lists no button combinations; if you cannot confirm the state or meet unusual resistance, stop trying and ask the equipment service provider and an authorised service centre for help. [1]
The emergency function is AC-only and not a general fix
The emergency release section notes that the function applies only to AC charging guns, and recommends contacting an authorised BYD service centre if it malfunctions or fails. This scope limit comes before any decision on what to do: it cannot be applied to DC equipment or other models just because they also have a charging gun. This article only explains the limits; it does not describe the cable's location or how to use it, and online demonstrations are not permission for the actual vehicle. Giving the service staff the charging equipment's identification, the messages shown and what went wrong helps them check against the right documents; an owner's record does not establish whether the cause is the vehicle's lock, the charging equipment or something else. [1]
Stop identifying states if the environment or equipment is unsafe
The manual says not to operate with wet hands, warns against disconnecting equipment after charging with wet hands or while standing in water, says not to touch a charging vehicle or charging equipment during a thunderstorm, and recommends not charging then. It also prohibits minors from charging or touching charging equipment, and requires charging to stop and an authorised service centre to be contacted if the vehicle or charging equipment behaves abnormally. If unsafe conditions are already present, stop trying yourself and get help; do not approach a dangerous position to check the mode, and do not open up or repair the equipment. Where safety cannot be confirmed, the state explanations in this article are no basis for carrying on; the cause of the fault and when it is safe to resume use are for professionals to decide using the vehicle and equipment documents.
