BYD Seagull Charging Port: Check for Burn Marks Anyway
A BYD Seagull that still charges can have a damaged charging port. What the manual asks you to check, what to record, and what not to touch.
BYD Seagull charging port: check for burn marks even if it still charges
Scope: China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website file 260317; PDF p. 310, "Check each charging connector inlet" (manual section name)
Charging fine doesn't mean the port is fine
The manual lists foreign objects, burn marks and similar issues at the charging connector ports as items for regular inspection. A car that occasionally completes a charge only shows that that particular charge happened; it does not prove the charging port is undamaged. A charging port problem and successful charging are not mutually exclusive, and one successful charge cannot be used to dismiss a suspicious condition that needs professional inspection. [1]
Record what you see; don't touch the contacts
If you notice suspicious discolouration, an unusual smell, a heat warning or difficulty connecting, stop trying and contact the charging provider and the vehicle workshop to explain the situation. Do not put fingers, metal tools or cleaning fluid into the contact area, and do not try several charging guns to test it by repeatedly applying power. This article gives no steps for cleaning the charging port, abrading contacts or taking measurements. [1]
Find the faulty part before replacing anything
The charging gun, the charging equipment connection and the vehicle-side charging port are separate pieces of equipment; a failed charge alone does not establish that the vehicle-side assembly must be replaced. A professional should use the inspection findings to confirm where the fault is and which approved part applies before arranging a repair. A charging port or adaptor that looks similar does not mean it meets this car's electrical, safety and control requirements. [1]
