BYD Seagull Automatic Car Wash: Brushes, Water and Paint
The BYD Seagull manual warns some brushes, unfiltered rinse water and preset programmes can scratch paint. What to ask before an automatic wash.
BYD Seagull before an automatic car wash: brushes, water and programmes
Scope: China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website file 260317; PDF physical pp. 315–316, "Washing the vehicle" and "Automatic car wash"; not extended to other models or paint processes
Ask about the equipment before choosing a programme
The Seagull manual points out that some brushes, unfiltered rinse water and machine-set programmes can scratch the paint, so choosing an automatic wash is not just a matter of comparing detergent names. Before going in, you can ask what brushes are used, how the rinse water is filtered and which type of paint the current programme suits. These are editorial suggestions for choosing a service; the car wash's answers are not manufacturer certification. [1]
Scratches affect more than looks
The manual states clearly that paint scratches reduce durability and gloss, and that dark-coloured vehicles need particular attention. An editorial suggestion to reduce disputes: with the car safely parked, inspect and record existing scratches before handing it over, then compare in similar light after the wash. If you find new marks, check the process with the car wash first rather than immediately adding a polishing service, and do not conclude from one scratch that all the equipment is faulty. [1]
Contamination has its own time limits
For tree resin, bird droppings and dead insects, the manual asks for prompt cleaning, so do not leave them while waiting for your usual wash package; before washing by hand, the car should be cooled down fully in the shade. For dirt that will not come off, do not scrape the body with a blade or use petrol; leave it to professional cleaners working to this vehicle's material requirements, and do not take an ineffective automatic wash as licence to scrub harder.
