BYD Seagull Recirculation: Tunnels, Parking and Misting
BYD Seagull air recirculation can switch automatically in tunnels or when parked. Why no mode suits all weather, and how winter misting changes the choice.
BYD Seagull recirculation settings: tunnels, parking and winter misting differ
Scope: China-mainland 2026 Seagull; official website file 260317; PDF pp. 288–291, "Air conditioning tips" and "Air conditioning settings"
Check the current air intake first
The manual lists settings such as automatic recirculation when parked and automatic recirculation in tunnels, so a change in circulation may come from the control logic rather than a faulty button. Recirculation reduces the entry of certain outside air, while fresh-air mode brings in air from outside; neither can be called the all-purpose choice that is always healthier or always more efficient, whatever the weather. [1]
Pay particular attention to the glass in winter
This manual suggests using recirculation first in cold weather to help the cabin warm up, then switching to fresh air once it is warm to reduce misting; running the compressor while heating also reduces humidity. The point is to manage temperature, humidity and visibility together, not to fix one mode for the whole journey. If the windscreen starts to affect your view, use the matching demist function first and make sure you are safe. [1]
Tell setting changes apart from faults
Before reporting a fault, note whether you had driven through a tunnel, whether the car was parked, the state of the related automatic options and how the glass behaved. This helps the workshop separate user settings from hardware problems, without rushing to replace a flap actuator. This article gives no duct removal, control module reflashing or air quality measurement conclusions; persistent problems need checking by professionals. [1]
