Circuit protection doesn't cover every modification

The manual prohibits modifying the wiring or adding electrical components, and explains that extra high-power devices may increase the load on the wiring, while non-standard rewiring can also create contact resistance and abnormal heat. Fitting a fuse does not prove the wiring, mounting, insulation and connectors meet requirements, and a fuse that has not blown does not prove the wiring is risk-free. ^[1]

The prohibition has no third-party exceptions

This vehicle's manual explicitly prohibits modifying the wiring and adding electrical components, and this article keeps that prohibition. A seller's claims of plug-and-play, a separate fuse, compatibility testing or professional installation do not create an exception, and having an installation basis does not make it acceptable. Accessories for the original 12V outlet should be checked separately against that outlet's rated conditions, and the outlet cannot be used to justify rewiring or add-ons. ^[1]

Stop immediately if anything overheats

If you notice a burning smell, smoke, damaged wiring or unusual noises, stop what you are doing, move away from the danger first and contact the emergency services or professionals. Do not look for a larger fuse to keep things working, and do not strip out wiring to trace the fault yourself.
