Geely New Coolray sunroof leaks: inspect drains and seals before choosing parts

If wet marks appear near a New Coolray sunroof after rain, do not immediately order glass or a complete mechanism. Have the repairer inspect the drain holes, channels and seals and explain where the water entered. That separates cleaning and maintenance from damage requiring replacement.

Drain holes and seals both require maintenance

The New Coolray handbook on the Russian website states that, when the sunroof is used frequently in windy, dusty conditions, dust and dirt should be removed from the glass seal with a damp sponge. “An aged seal” should therefore not be the only answer in a leak investigation. Checking for blockages and the condition after cleaning should form part of the inspection. A wet patch inside the vehicle alone does not justify replacing the entire sunroof.

Distinguish seals, glass and the sunshade

Inspection findings should explain the water path

After inspection, ask whether the finding is a dirt blockage, a sealing issue requiring further investigation or confirmed component damage. Recommendations to replace glass, sealing components or the mechanism should each have their own grounds, rather than just “sunroof leaks, replace assembly”.

After cleaning and maintenance, also record the original wet-mark location and follow-up inspection results. If the problem recurs, this shows what was previously addressed without restarting with a complete assembly purchase.
