2025 ATTO 1 tyres and wheels: distinguish Essential from Premium

Australian MY25 ATTO 1 Essential and Premium have different original tyre and wheel combinations. Check the trim before selecting either.

If a tyre shop finds both 15-inch and 16-inch results for an ATTO 1, do not select one arbitrarily. The Australian 2025 model year (MY25) Essential and Premium have different original combinations. Identify the trim first to avoid buying the wrong tyre or wheel.

One ATTO 1 name, different original combinations

BYD’s MY25 Australian specification lists these combinations:[Manufacturer specification, page 2][R01]

| Trim | Wheel type | Original tyre specification |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Essential | Steel wheel | 175/65 R15 |
| Premium | Alloy wheel | 185/55 R16 |

The differences include wheel material, tyre width, aspect ratio and rim diameter. A similar-looking alloy wheel is not automatically a replacement for Essential’s steel wheel. The table listing two combinations does not establish direct interchangeability.

“15” and “16” are more than appearance differences

In 175/65 R15, 175 is nominal section width in millimetres; 65 is sidewall height as a percentage of width; R identifies radial construction; and 15 is the applicable rim diameter in inches. An R15 tyre is therefore not for a 16-inch rim.[Tyre-marking explanation][N01]

Replacement also requires checking the load index and speed rating in the full sidewall markings. These are separate from the 175/65 R15 size. Matching size does not remove the need to check the remaining specifications.

Sidewall damage does not automatically require wheel replacement

If replacement follows kerb contact or a pothole impact, assess tyre damage separately from wheel condition. Michelin’s general technical guidance says a cut damaging the casing plies requires tyre replacement; a sidewall bulge is a danger sign requiring prompt professional inspection, and damage can also occur on the inner side.[Sidewall damage guidance][N02]

Deep tread alone does not justify continued use of a damaged tyre. But a tyre requiring replacement does not prove that the wheel must also be discarded. Confirm tyre and wheel findings separately before deciding whether to purchase one or both.

Scope and verification

This article applies only to the cited Australian MY25 ATTO 1 Essential and Premium specifications. Michelin information explains tyre markings and general damage assessment only; it does not establish that any Michelin product fits the vehicle.

No public data was available in the reviewed material for the specified load index, speed rating, wheel OE numbers, bolt pattern, offset, load capacity, tightening limits or approved cross-trim interchangeability. [To be verified] Check compatibility or interchangeability using the VIN and the local Australian manufacturer parts catalogue. If modified, establish the vehicle’s current wheel and tyre configuration as well.
